Preventing Elder Financial Abuse

Elder Financial abuse is is a type of abuse where someone in a position of trust interferes with or controls an older person’s ability to acquire, use or maintain their own finances.

It occurs when an older adult is financially exploited by friends, family members, or by the care home or home care staff. It may result in the older person losing their life savings, home or both.
This ‘Dementia Action Week’ event will help seniors and caregivers understand:

  • What is financial abuse?
  • Who are the likely perpetrators?
  • What are the warning signs of elder financial abuse
  • How to prevent financial abuse

The event will be hosted by Tayo Idowu, CEO of Ebony Life Publishing and presented by Veronica Gray, Deputy CEO of Hourglass. A charity that works to challenge and prevent the abuse of older people, through the provision of services, and training.
